About this Collection:
The fruit in these still lifes take on something of a human presence in their relationships with each other and the viewer: at times displaying tenderness, energy, loneliness, passion, and playfulness.
The collection was conceived during an exceptionally dark time in my life, when I was watching the future I expected to have be taken away from me by the very person I trusted to build that future with. As an act of self-preservation, I returned in my subject matter to a place where I had last felt comfortable with the work I was producing. I attempted it again in what has now become my style, this time in acrylic paint.
I’ve never before completed a collection of this size, and finishing it before taking on another subject matter was truly a personal triumph. While aspects of my life were actively unraveling before my eyes, working on this collection became a refuge. The first steps in securing a new future for myself.
It is not a collection born out of despair, but rather out of untested optimism that I will finally step into an artistic role that has been humming in the background since I was a child.
